IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Olga
Stain
October 8, 1923 – January 4, 2018
Olga Semé Stain was born October 8, 1923 in Haiti to Cleante Semé and Judge Preston Suffront. She became a U.S. Citizen in 1945 following her immigration through Ellis Island in 1932. A graduate of New York's historic Wadleigh High School for Girls, she was an Ocean Life Guard who played classical piano and loved weekly field trips to parks, museums, operas, symphonies, and ballet.
Olga attended City College of New York, transferred to Howard University, and graduated with a degree in Romance Languages. At Howard, she met and married the love of her life Dr. Stanley Stain of San Antonio, Texas in 1947. To this union five children were born: Cleante Marguerite, Stanley Jr., Olga Carolyn, Michael David, and Steven Charles.
A dedicated mother, Olga imbued her children and grandchildren with her resounding mantra, POWER (Plan, Organize, Work, Earn, your Reward). She loved people, family vacations, and educational trips to Europe, Africa, Israel, South America, and the Caribbean.
Professionally, she was among the first African Americans to become a licensed Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) and worked for 30 years as a court reporter for the State of California.
More recently, Olga was lovingly known as "Mom" by members of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Her candor, wise counsel, and encouragement bore witness to the goodness of God. She was a faithful member of Sunday School Class #5 where she enjoyed great fellowship and love.
On Thursday, January 4, 2018, the Master graciously welcomed her home. A soldier to the end, Olga Semé Stain touched many lives throughout her various communities.
Olga was preceded in death by her mother, Cleante LeConte, her father, Judge Preston Suffront, her husband, Dr. Stanley Stain, and beloved son-in-law, Demetrius Taylor. She is survived by her five children, Cleante Stain of Long Beach, CA., Stanley Stain, Jr. of Culver City, CA., Dr. Olga Stain Taylor of Plano. TX., Michael Stain (Janice) of Clovis, CA., and Dr. Steven Stain (Hyacinth) of Albany., NY along with eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
