IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Oscar
Smith
August 29, 1949 – July 6, 2023
A GLIMPSE AT THE LIFE OF
Oscar Smith was born in McKinney Texas on August 29, 1949, to
the parentage of S.W. Smith and Sylvia Brown-Smith. During his
formative years, he attended Powerhouse C.O.G.I.C. affectionally
known as Powerhouse Number 1, in Frisco with his grandmother,
Mother Loraine Brown, who helped raised young Oscar, and had
a very positive influence on him. He always said, "My Grand-
mother" Mother Brown kept us in church.
He attended Frisco ISD, and excelled in football, and was in the
graduating class of 1968. After High School, Oscar began going
to Henderson County Jr. College until he was drafted into the
United States Army. He received an honorable discharge. Oscar
loved his country and loved being a Veteran.
Shortly after his discharge in 1971, he met the love of his life
Savannah Williams-Smith. Together they raised three children in
The Colony, Texas. Ray, Fontella, and Oscar, Jr. (aka Pooch).
Savannah acquired a sweet, loving bonus daughter, Tabitha Lynn.
The Colony was a new up and coming city, and they were one of
the first black homeowners in the city. They worked hard for 52
wonderful years, and they made it work.
Later in life Oscar gave his life back to the Lord, and the Lord
blessed him to become the head Deacon of Powerhouse
C.O.G.I.C. in Celina, Texas, under the leadership of Pastor Curtis
E. Majors, Sr. His wife, Mother Smith served as head Mother.
He loved his church, and he loved people. Sunday School was one
of his favorites, and he loved to ask questions.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents S.W Smith and Sylvia
Brown-Smith, sister Dorothy Smith, his daughter Tabitha
Lynn-Cole, and his son Oscar Smith, Jr.
He leaves to mourn, his devoted wife Mother Savannah Smith; his
loving children, son Ray Allen Williams (Jackie), daughter
Fontella Foy (Richard); 94-year-old Aunt Erma Giddings; two
brothers, George Bishop, Kenneth Smith (Mary); two sisters,
