Obituary

On Saturday, March 22, 1947, which was a historically warm Spring Day, the eldest daughter of
Rev. Donald Lee Smith and Mrs. Mary Helen Jones Smith, was welcomed into the Smith
Household in Sibley, Louisiana, where she was born in the original family home there. They
named her Pastoria L. Smith. Although she was given several nicknames - PattiCake,
Pastaroni, Patty Girl, she was more commonly known as Pat.

Young Pastoria spent her formative years under the nurturing care of her family. She confessed
Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and became a member of the Pilgrim Rest
Baptist Church in Sibley, under the leadership of the Late Reverend J. H. Tims. She remained
an active member until she left the area.

Her early education began at J. L. Jones Elementary, and she later attended J. A. Philips Jr
High and Webster High Schools, all located in Minden, Louisiana.

In 1964, Pastoria L. Smith and Jesse Ben Ary, Jr. were married at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist
Church. They moved to and resided in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she was a devoted wife
and mother. Following the dissolution of the marriage, Pastoria moved back to Sibley in 1973,
and continued rearing her children. She was a devoted mother of seven, and always put the
care of her family before herself. In addition, her hospitality was felt throughout the Sibley
community, as she uplifted spirits by compassionately offering a listening ear, dispensing words
of wisdom, and lending a helping hand in good and bad times.

Pastoria was employed as a domestic by several local families, including the Tharpe and
Culverhouse families. She also worked at Mr. Twister and ConAgra Chicken Plant. In addition,
she worked as a short-order cook at the former Truckers Paradise, and later went on to work at
Louisiana Downs. She ended her employment in the State of Louisiana while working as a
Private Sitter, providing in-home care for sick members of several local families.

In 1995, she moved to Garland, Texas and began working with Educare-Texas at the
Kensington House. Pastoria prided herself in exhibiting a strong work ethic wherever she was
employed and thoroughly enjoyed her work.

She joined and remained an active and faithful member of Praise Temple CFC in Dallas, Texas,
under the leadership of Pastor Donnie Young, where she was a greeter, member of the Women
of Distinction and member of the Mothers Board, until her failing health no longer permitted her
to attend.

In the early morning hours of Monday, October 30, 2023, Pastoria L. Smith Ary departed this
earthly life and entered into her eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her Paternal
