Obituary

Quincie Mae Brown was born on February 5, 1931, to Mr. and Mrs. Charlie F. Brown of Kendleton, Texas. At an early age, she gave her life to the Lord, Jesus Christ, and became a devoted member of the Church of God. She attended Powell Point High School and later graduated from Herbert High School in Beaumont, Texas.

She continued her education at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, studying Secretarial Science. Her passion for ministry and service led her to the Buffalo Bible Institute for Child Evangelism and the Institute of Scientific Studies of Alcohol and Other Narcotics for counseling.

On April 6, 1963, she married the love of her life, Reverend Jesse V. Hunter, founder and pastor of The Church of God in Christ, where he served faithfully until his health declined.

Together, they opened their home to foster children, providing love, stability, and guidance to more than twenty young people. Quincie later attended the State University of New York College at Buffalo, earning a Teacher's Aide Certificate of Achievement. She served on the Board of Education as a Teacher's Aide and Instructional Aide for over thirty years before retiring.

From childhood, Quincie was taught to pray---- and she prayed morning, noon, and night throughout her life. A faithful church worker, she began writing Sunday School minutes as soon as she learned to write. When the pastor was absent, she often shared words the Lord had given her. While living with Pastor Mother Bingham, who was blind, she assisted in church services and filled the pulpit in her absence. During these years, she also learned prison ministry and mission work.

Quincie was ordained as a Reverend on March 1, 1959, and later ordained to the Office of Elder on July 13, 2008. On April 11, 2008, she was installed as a Mother of The Light of the World Missions, Inc., El Bethel Assembly. She conducted Bible studies at the Alden Correctional Facilities for women. She also served as Superintendent of the School of Wisdom.

Her ministry extended far beyond the church walls. She taught Bible studies, led noon-day prayer meetings, and volunteered at the TCT television station as a prayer partner and participant in the "Ask the Pastor" program. She maintained a home "by the side of the road," always ready to welcome those whom God sent her way. Even at the age of 82, she continued to fast, pray, and faithfully wear many hats. She signed her testimony with the words that defined her life: "Yours for LOST SOULS!"

Quincie will be remembered for her love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to serving others. She worked alongside the late Bishop William Henderson and supported countless outreach ministries and prayer efforts. Her life's work included being a foster parent; serving as a TCT intercessory prayer partner for 25 years; participating in noon-day prayer; teaching Bible study at the Erie County Correctional Facility for 10 years with Elder Janet Stewart; assisting Urban Christian Ministries with Elder Will Copeland and Elder Cleveland Howell; training young ladies in domestic skills; engaging in missionary prayer work in Mexico; assisting Pastor Odell Foster with Bible study; mentoring spiritual sons and daughters; and providing countless rides to those in need----so many that she purchased a minivan when the church lacked transportation. Her service was tireless, and her impact immeasurable.

She was associated with the Underground Railroad Church on Michigan Street---- now known as El Bethel Assembly----under the leadership of the late Bishop William Henderson and Bishop Clarence Montgomery for over 40 years and later reconnected with Bethesda World Harvest under Bishop Michael Badger. Mother Quincie Hunter never met a stranger, and all who knew this trailblazer are encouraged to continue serving the community with the same kindness and love she so freely gave.

Mother Quincie Hunter is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brothers: Reverend Dr. Otis F. Brown (Johnnie Mae), Reverend Victor R. Brown, Sr. (Hazel), and Roscoe Lloyd Brown.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters: Charlene Brown Nix of Cedar Hill, Texas; Florean Brown Greer of Plano, Texas; and Flora Brown Smith (M. L.) of Kendleton, Texas; one uncle, Mr. Curtis Brown of Los Angeles, California, and sister-in-law Elizabeth "Ann" Brown of Williamsville, New York. She also leaves a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who will forever remember her generous spirit, her steadfast faith, and her life poured out in service to God and others.
