Rickey Renea Sims was born on June 3, 1961, in Greenville, Texas to Essie and Tommy Lee Sims.
Rickey transitioned from his earthly home to his Heavenly home on Monday, December 1, 2025, in Dallas, Tx, leaving the following to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Katherine Sims of 25 years of marriage; his dear mother, Essie Stimpson; his brothers, Kenneth Ray Sims (Bakersfield, CA), Dennis Sims (Dallas, TX), Timothy Sims (Garland, Tx); his sister, Mary Linda Weston (Bakersfield, CA); his children, Tawana Sims, Rickey Sims Jr., Aleshia Sims, Rickel Morris, Crystal Ferell, Jeffery Ferell, Miranda Davis, and Tensa Davis and numerous grandkids; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
After finishing high school in Bakersfield, California, Rickey enlisted in the United States Army where he served from 1980-1985. During his tenure, he became a Sergeant ending his service at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas.
Rickey's diversified career consisted of many leadership roles including restaurant management, five years as a contractor for the Dallas Morning News, and over 23 years with the Garland Independent School District until his retirement due to his declining health. One of Rickey's greatest moments was working with children during his employment at Beaver Elementary School in Garland, TX. He was a part of implementing Safety Patrol and mentoring students about safety. He also served as a Supervisor with Garland ISD.
Rickey accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 16 joining New Life Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor J.T. Edwards. He later became a deacon which he loved and served faithfully.
Throughout his life, he left a mark on many, with his humor, counsel, and friendship; Rickey leaves behind a legacy full of lasting memories filled with laughter and love that will forever live in the hearts of his loved ones.
Rickey's wife, mother, siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and extended family and friends will forever hold him in their hearts and cherish the memories left behind.
May his memory be a continued blessing forever in our hearts, forever in peace - Amen
