Obituary

On Sunday, September 22, 1951, in Brenham, Texas, Esther and Cecil Albert Harris, Sr. welcomed their fourth child, Robert Donald Harris. Our mother would come to refer to us as her rainbow children. Those who knew and know our family will understand why.

Our parents were among the original families to move into the H.P. community. We were faithful members of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Pastor J.R. Stewart, 4601 Baldwin Street, Dallas, Texas. Upon relocating to H.P., we became part of the original Hamilton Park First Baptist Church congregation. Robert accepted Christ at an early age under the pastorage of J.L. Foster.

Bobby's early childhood education began at Munger Avenue Kindergarten and he graduated to Hamilton Park Elementary School. Upon RISD desegregation in 1968, Bobby transferred and graduated from Lake Highlands High School, but until death remained a loyal Hamilton Park Bobcat.

Robert attended Henderson County Junior College in Athens, TX, following in the footsteps of his brother, John David Harris and sister, Julia Faye Harris.

The love of the Lord has always been instilled in Bobby. He was a loyal and faithful member of Greater New Birth Baptist Church in Plano, TX, where he was led in the Word by Pastor Charles Terry, Sr. Robert loved and respected his pastor. After becoming too ill to attend service each Sunday, he would send his pastor a weekly message requesting prayer.

Bobby's sense of humor was as unforgettable as his wardrobe. He had a gift for making people laugh and lifting spirits with his perfectly timed jokes and playful charm. His laughter was a sound of comfort, joy, and love that will echo in our memories forever. He loved to challenge anyone in a game of cards or dominos, and you better be ready to lose.

He was united in marriage to his soulmate, Faye Hughes, on January 26, 1973. Their love was a true partnership—rooted in laughter, and resilience. Bobby was a loving father to their daughters, Qainta Tiquan Harris and Fache' LaDon Harris (deceased).

Bobby is survived by a daughter, Qainta Tiquan Harris (Eric Whetsel); grandson, Zander Harris Hamdan; his siblings, Shirley Harris Jackson (Keith), Reverend John D. Harris, PHD (Helen), Julia Faye Harris Williams (Stanley), Vanessa Harris Howard (Ondre *deceased); Faye Hughes Harris, Connie Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, bonus nieces and nephews, cousins near and far along with his Hamilton Park Family & Friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Cecil A. Harris Sr.; his mother, Esther Harris Thomas; brothers, Cecil A. Harris, Jr., George R. Harris; his daughter, Fache' LaDon Harris; niece, Karen Mackey; along with his nephew, Kelvin Nathaniel Williams.

Robert "Bobby" Donald Harris will be remembered for his love, his laughter, his signature style, and the grace with which he walked through life. Though he may be gone from our sight, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Rest well, Bobby - You are deeply cherished and will be dearly missed.
