IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roy Milton
Woods Sr.
March 13, 1942 – April 16, 2024
Roy Milton Woods, Sr. was born to C.B. and Oletha Woods on March 13, 1942
in Newton, Texas.
Roy attended Newton County grade schools before moving to Jasper,
graduating from J.H. Rowe in 1959. After graduating high school, he went on to attend Texas
Southern University in Houston, TX where he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi and earned his degree
in Business Management. As a faithful member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Roy and his fraternity
brothers were an essential part of Black History, participating in sit-ins to protest racial
inequality.
After leaving TSU, Roy was employed at IBM. He was quickly promoted to Southwest
Regional Manager and retired after 30 years. In 1963, he married his high school sweetheart
Pearlie Mae Cooper.
As a young boy, Roy was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in Newton, Texas and attended
Greater New Bethel Baptist Church in Jasper, Texas. He grew to become a great man of faith,
and a representation of strength and resiliency. One of his most prized possessions were that of
his family, always leading prayers during family gatherings. Many would describe him as a
comedic, selfless, disciplined, God-fearing man. He loved supporting Friday Night Lights high
school football, watching the Dallas Cowboys, western movies and game shows, particularly
Family Feud. He was a faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Plano, Texas
since 1977.
On April 16, 2024, Roy gained his wings peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. He is
preceded in death by his parents, C.B. and Oletha Woods; sisters, Vernel Woods and Burnetta
Mitchell.
Roy is survived by his wife, Pearl; their children, Quinn Walker (Tracy Williams), Roy Woods,
Jr. (Taronda) and Roderick Woods; his sister Lexa Faye Jones.
He leaves to cherish his memories; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members and
friends.
He will be greatly missed; however, he fought a good fight. He leaves the physical world to be
in eternity with our Lord...Forever in our hearts.
"Death leaves a Heartache no one can heal;
Love leaves a Memory no one can steal."
