Shemika Johnson also known as "Mika", or "4J" and some would call her, "Pretty King" was born on November 26, 1980 , she was the second born out of 9 children. Mika grew up on the east side of Plano where she served her community wholeheartedly.
Mika loved basketball and started playing at the tender age of 5. She attended AAU basketball summer league, the 3-On-3 Hoop-It-Up tournaments every summer. Mika's love for basketball also influenced her to mentor upcoming basketball players.
Shemika accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Mika graduated from Plano East in 1999, she played basketball at Collin County Community College where she earned an Associate degree in business. She had dreams and aspirations of obtaining her MBA and owning her own clothing line. She always stated she would have businesses to create employment within her community. Mika had the privilege to try out for the WNBA and she had numerous basketball scholarships but turned them down to take care of her family.
Mika worked for the City of Plano for 10 years at the Douglass Community Center. She has mentored over 1,000 children and youth. Additionally, she volunteered with the elders in the community by spending time with them, playing board games and telling jokes. During the summer, she would make sack lunches and go to MLK to serve the homeless population. Mika was a founding member of the Boys and Girls Club and Keystone Club.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather Jack Henry Johnson, grandmother Flora Lee Johnson "Bessie", uncle Marvin M. Johnson and nephew Cameron Johnson.
Mika leaves to cherish her precious memories, her mother Patricia Ann Johnson; father Donald Ray Smith (Julie); great aunt Betty Lewis; four sisters: Latonya Johnson, Kanesha Johnson, Tierra Johnson (Rose) and Kierra Johnson; four brothers: Brandon Johnson, Clint Johnson, Johnathan Johnson and Tyson Johnson; four uncles: Richard Johnson (Karen), Jackie Johnson (Linda), Eugene Johnson and Dale Johnson; four aunts: Pearlie Williams, Mary Denson, Glenda Johnson and Christina Gay; nieces and nephews: Kaliyah, Tamia, Makenzie, Alijah, Kayden, Kylan, Carmelo, Eboni and Karlee; four step-nieces and nephews: De'Vontavious, Ty'Drianna, Te'Kayden, TyTe'Yanna and a host of other relatives and friends.
