Obituary

Sherrilynn Yvette Jones was born on April 14, 1958, to Paul Jones Sr. and Gladys Bright. She was a part of the first integrating class at J.O. Davis Elementary in 1966.

Sherrilynn discovered her passion for softball at an early age and was a standout player in the city of Irving. She graduated from Nimitz High School in 1976. Upon graduation, she enlisted into the Army where she served for over 14 years, from active duty to be in the reserves where she traveled to countries like Germany and Europe. She would often speak about her experience in sales, and she received many accolades at Dallas Morning News during her 10-plus years in the Classified Ads department, which included an all-expense-paid trip to Cancun, Mexico for being a top seller for the Dallas Morning News.

Sherrilynn accepted Jesus Christ at an early age where she found her love for singing in the Shady Grove Church Choir. She also sang in the Irving Mass Choir under the direction of Earnest Jefferson. Sherilynn had a deep love for her Bear Creek and Dalworth community. She could walk into a room and the whole room would light up because she lived by the motto " You never meet a stranger". Sherrilynn would often speak and brag about her two daughters Gladys and Paula and she cherished her grandbabies Neveah and Ivy. She was very family-oriented and enjoyed supporting her nephews, nieces, and daughters in all their school and sporting events.  So, whether you acted, sang, or played a sport you knew when Sherrilynn Jones was there to support you because she was the loudest fan in the building. Her true character came out when it came to supporting Paula at her basketball games at the Grand Prairie Boys and Girls Club and at GPHS where she showed up in her Gopher blue. She was beyond proud of her daughter Gladys Thomas for inheriting her mother's ability and love of hair. Sherrilynn was "Hyena Happy" when Gladys obtained her cosmetology license in 2013 and then went on to become a successful business owner in 2016.

She is preceded in death by Paul and Gladys Jones Robert C. Jones Sr (Mary Sue), Darcy Jones, and Christopher James Mitchell Jr.

Those left behind to celebrate her life, and continue to carry out her legacy are, her children: Gladys L. Thomas (Bobby R. Thomas III), and Paula Y. Jones (Christopher J. Mitchell Sr.); brothers: Paul L.D. Jones (Teresa F. Jones), and John F.K. Jones (Deb Jones); grandchildren: Nevaeh Yvette Mae Mitchell and Ivy Elise Mitchell, along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and friends.
