IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Ann
Wren
August 9, 1948 – October 1, 2024
Shirley Ann Wren was born August 9, 1948 to the union of Annie
Ruth Owens and Autha Owens, Sr. in Topeka, Kansas. She was the
second oldest of seven children. Shirley was preceded in death by
parents; her brothers, Arthur Jr. and Steven; and sister, Christy.
Shirley's early education was in the Topeka Public School system,
graduating from Topeka High School in the Class of 1966. She at-
tended Washburn University and later completed Business Admin-
istration education at the Clark School of Business. On November
15, 1969, she married the love of her life, Walter Wren and they
celebrated 54 years of marriage. To this union one daughter was
born, Malinda Jovan Wren.
In 1957, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was bap-
tized at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist in Topeka where she
began her Christian journey. Upon transitioning from Kansas to
Texas with her husband and pursuing a career at AT&T Corpora-
tion, she united with Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church in
1986. There, she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher and
in the Usher Ministry. She also served in the God's Closet Food
Pantry, the Beaux and Debutantes Ministry, and supported Mission
Outreach. She had previously served on the Pastoral Search Com-
mittee. Shirley was fond of her long-tine pastor, Reverend Leonard
Leach and her Care Team, Shepherds Brother James and Sis. Stella
Jones.
Shirley had a quiet spirit. She loved the Lord and shared the gospel
with her family and everyone she came in contact with. She led a
life characterized by unwavering faith, dedication, and service
amidst life's challenges. She kept the faith, trusted God, believed
in His promises, and was always seeking to learn and listen to God
during her medical challenges, even to life's end. Her profound
commitment to her family, church, neighbors, and Garland com-
munity impacted the lives of many.
Shirley was a twenty year student of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF)
International. She loved studying and meditating on God's Word.
She enjoyed the fellowship and worship with her BSF sisters
weekly throughout the years, as she joyfully shared God's truth
and gained wisdom. She was a friend to all, enjoyed reading books,
cooking, and traveling.
Shirley retired after 35 years with AT&T where she worked in var-
ious positions prior to achieving management level. Shirley was
recognized for her compassion, dedicated and loyal service to the
company and being a trusted employee with a great attitude.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Walter Wren
and her daughter, Malinda Wren. She also leaves her brother, Wil-
liam Owens, Sr. (Brenda); sisters, Linda Owens Kinney and Cindy
Owens White (James) all of Topeka, Kansas and a host of nieces,
nephews, friends, and her Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist
Church Family.
