IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sidney C.
Evans
December 17, 1952 – December 22, 2025
Sidney ("Sid") Evans, age 73, went to be with the Lord on December 22, 2025. Born on December 17, 1952, in Lubbock, Texas, Sidney was the beloved son of Willie Neil Evans and Rosie Lee Evans.
Sid was a man who always saw the good in people—even when others could not. He is known for a wealth of knowledge. Everyone went to him for help with vehicles, minor home repairs, putting together complex fixtures and toys, and even killing bugs and catching snakes. He greeted everyone with a firm handshake and a warm hug. Sid was also a history buff, educating everyone on all kinds of history.
Sidney graduated from Estacado High School in 1972. He carried an ingenious and hardworking mindset from an early age, owning his own welding business in his younger years.
Later, he transitioned into a career as a truck driver until retirement. Sidney was the undisputed king of comebacks—quick-witted, sharp, and always ready with a line that could make a room erupt in laughter. A true "man's man," he was fiercely proud of his family and never hesitated to show up when family needed him most.
In the mid-1990s, Sid met the love of his life, Gwen, and the two were married in 1998, sharing years of love, laughter, and companionship. He cherished time spent with family, enjoyed watching YouTube and ESPN, practiced meditation, and took great joy in watching the children around him grow.
Above all, Sidney was a spiritual man and will be remembered for his heart—his kindness, loyalty, humor, and the way he made people around him feel seen and valued. Sid's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave freely. Sidney is survived by: his loving wife, Gwendolyn Polk-Evans; son, Sidnei Gaines of Vernon, TX; stepchildren, Anittra "LaToya" Polk, Michael Polk, and Cedric Lane; a host of grandchildren; his sister Joyce Porter-Harvest (Neal) of Lubbock; three brothers David Porter (Brenda), Larry Porter and Johnny "Glen" Evans (Gee) all of Lubbock, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Sidney was a member at Greater St. Luke Baptist Church. The following family members preceded Sidney in joining the Lord: his mother and father, Willie Neil and Rosie Lee Evans; his daughter, Natasha Portee; and siblings, Ralph Evans, Carol Evans-Harvest, and Christine Evans all of Lubbock, TX.
