Obituary

Troy Derrick was born on March 4, 1963, to Elizabeth "Betty" Derrick and Lonnie B. Henson. He was a man whose kindness, hard work, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Troy received his education in the Garland area, attending Central Elementary School, Shorehaven Elementary School, Sellers Middle School, Garland High School, and Lakeview Centennial High School. He frequently walked the halls of South Garland High School, where he formed many friendships and memories that lasted throughout his life.

Throughout his working years, Troy held various positions in moving companies, truck driving, and security services. He approached every job with dedication and determination until declining health made it difficult for him to continue working.

Troy found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time fishing, grilling for family and friends, working in his yard, and planting flowers and vegetables. He was mechanically gifted and enjoyed working on cars. Known for his generous spirit, Troy could often be found helping neighborhood children by fixing their bikes.

In 1985, Troy married his middle school crush, Carolyn Sanders. Their marriage was a testament to love, commitment, and friendship, lasting until his passing.

Troy was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents; his parents, Elizabeth "Betty" Derrick and Lonnie B. Henson; his brother, Cedric Williams; and his cherished grandson, Trentin McNeal.

He leaves behind a legacy of love through his wife, Carolyn Derrick; his children, Ashley Derrick, Troy Derrick, Jr. (Shakresha), and Artevia Jarvis; his grandchildren, Dermaine Arnette, Tamarques McNeal, Deundre Boyd, Taylon McNeal, Jeramiah Derrick, and Sa'Rynity Perry.

He also leaves to cherish his memory his brothers, Tracy Derrick (Vanglia), Lonnie Hunter (Rhonda), Antonio Henson (Sheron), and Lonnie Henson; his sisters, Elizabeth Jackson, Vikka Ware, and Lonnette Henson; extended brothers, Joseph Derrick, Richard Sherwood, and Paul Johnson; Aunts, Beatrice Bennett and Mereline Starling; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, and neighbors who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.

Troy's life was defined by love, service, and generosity. Whether lending a helping hand, sharing wisdom, or simply offering a smile, he touched countless lives. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

Troy will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
