Obituary

Troy Lee Scurlark, Sr. was born August 25, 1942, in Grapeland, Texas.Troy's parents, Cleopha and Ivory Scurlark, were one of two families who attended the Church of Christ in Stanton, Texas. Troy was one of four children. His father n law was instrumental in his teaching him about God's love and goodness, and as a result of his teachings, he was baptized into the Body of Christ 1963.

Growing up, Troy lived only a block away from Marva Scurlark. They became childhood sweethearts, and on March 9, 1963, they were married. To this union four children were born: Troy, Jr., Merv, Prince Anthony, and Gaye Dilene.

Troy's career was marked by unwavering dedication and remarkable achievements. He excelled at Halliburton, earned his Real Estate License under Ebby Halliday, and retired with honors from Sam's Wholesale Club in the Automotive department/tires. A true trailblazer, Troy was hired at Sam's to reduce fraud and to hire and motivate employees. Troy was the first, and perhaps, only employee at Sam's Wholesale Club allowed to wear a cowboy hat while on duty. He received customer relations awards which afforded him the opportunity to be among the few invited to tour Sam Walton's home.

As a proud pioneer, he played a key role in establishing the enduring Juneteenth celebration in Monahans, Texas. His passionate involvement with the NAACP demonstrated his firm commitment to civil rights and justice, embodying strength and integrity in his community.

Troy cherished the company of his brothers-in-law. However, before he could enjoy this companionship during his first year of marriage to Marva, he was asked to participate in Bible studies with his father-in-law. After approximately a year of study, Troy embraced and converted to Christianity. Troy was known as the lead in intervening in conflicts and disputes for resolution with his wisdom and common sense.

In 2000, Troy, Sr. and Marva placed their membership at Greenville Avenue Church of Christ (GACC). He was an active participant in the Young At Heart (YAH) activities. He and his wife were avid sports fans and attended Maverick basketball games with the YAH. For recreation, Troy enjoyed all things Corvette, hunting deer, barbequing, sporting western wear, and long drives in his corvette with Marva. He was a strong, God fearing, loving, and selfless man who valued friendship and family above all else and treated every person he met with kindness and respect.

Troy will be remembered for his love of Proverbs 20:3: It is an honor for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.

Troy was preceded in death by both parents; his wife, Marva Joan Jones; and a son, Prince (2005).

He leaves to cherish her precious memory: his loving children, Troy (Robin) Scurlark, Jr., of Forney, TX; Merv Scurlark (spouse, Katie Ramey, and daughter, Peyton) of Dallas, TX; Dilene Allen (special friend, Johnny Irons) of Mesquite, TX; eight grandchildren, Angela (Stan) Allridge, Little Elm, TX; Chrysta Dalton, Dallas, TX; Prince Andre (Shelby) Scurlark, Dallas, TX; LaToya Scurlark, Denver, CO; Troy Scurlark, III, Denver, CO; Quatrell Allen, Dallas, TX; Marissa Scurlark, Garland, TX; Anthony Scurlark, Spring, TX; Noelle Feryale Hamzah (Darius White), Dallas, TX; Abrahem Alhamzawi (Cynthia), Arlington, TX; Mohammed Kinner (Geniva), La Féria TX; ten great-grandchildren, Jhonnie Dalton, Kendrick Kennedy, Jona't Dalton, Daireon Valdez, Azarael Scurlark, London Scurlark, Malachi Scurlark, Ezekiel Scurlark, Braxton Scurlark, Collin Allridge; three sisters, Lula Mae (Rosevelt) Kitchen, Cloteal (James-deceased) Boysaw, and Eunice Ruth; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
