IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Tyree C.
Benson
February 7, 1933 – January 1, 2021
Tyree C. Benson was born on February 7, 1933 to the union of Norman Benson and Evelyn Horn Benson in Centerville, Texas. The family later moved to Mexia, Texas during his early years. He was the second born son of eight children. He departed this life on Friday, January 1, 2021 at Dell Seton Medical Center @ University of Texas (UT), Austin, Texas.
Preceding him in death was his father, mother, five brothers, and one sister.
Tyree graduated from Dunbar High School in Mexia, Texas. He entered the U.S. Air Force after graduating from high school and was medically retired after four years of service. He served during the Korean & Vietnam Wars and was an honorable U.S. Veteran.
Tyree met and married Delores Wharton on January 25, 1996. Delores is unable to attend his Celebration of Life due to her illness.
Tyree loved being outdoors, hunting, and barbecuing. He was very knowledgeable on so many subjects, especially history. He knew the Benson family history in-depth, which he loved sharing with his nephew, Dale Anthony. His mind was still very 'sharp' and his long-term memory was 'impeccable'. Most people who spent time with him were amazed at his thought process and his memory.
Tyree was there for his nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law, Lamar after his brother James Allen passed at the early age of 33 in 1968. James and Lamar's children cherished all the fond memories shared with him. They always reflect how their Uncle Tyree went 'Beyond' just being an uncle.
Tyree is survived by his wife: Delores Benson; sister: Dorothy Benson Williams; sister-in-laws: Lamar Benson and Catherine Benson; Special nephew who was like a son: Dale (Jacquelyne) Benson; nephews: Ronald (Atsuko) Benson, Daryl Williams, Dennis Williams, and Derrick (Vedra) Benson; nieces: Cheryl (Frederick) Henry, Janice Benson-Walker, Gay (Larry) Johnson, Renee (Cedric) Carr, Evonne (Fred) Rabon, Evette Williams, Dorothy Jones, Natasha (Anthony) Kemp, Tia Benson, Christina Benson (George) Anderson and a host of other relatives.
