IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Tyrone Lloyd
Black Sr.
March 31, 1945 – June 11, 2024
On March 31, 1945, in Mount Vernon, Texas, Tyrone Lloyd Black was born to
the parentage of Richard and Ivy Inez Black, the last born of nine children.
Tyrone entered eternal rest on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, in Arlington, Texas. He
was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Inez Black; siblings, Richard Black, Jr.,
Dollie McLemore, Geneva Gadlin, Martha Blakemore, James "Jimmie" Black, and John
Thomas Black. He leaves two surviving siblings, Willie Black of Dallas, TX and Lillian
Washington of Houston, TX.
Tyrone was reared and began his education in Mount Vernon, and the family relocated to Dallas,
Texas in 1958. He was a proud graduate of Lincoln High School's Class of 1964. Tyrone's
work experience included Dalworth Food Store, General Electric (GE), Fox and Jacobs, and 30
years of self-employment in construction under Blacks Hauling and Contracting.
In 1964, Tyrone met Carolyn Griggs of Grand Prairie, Texas and they were joined in Holy
Matrimony for 38 years. In addition to his parents and siblings, his wife, Carolyn Black and
great-grandson, Sebastian Antoine also preceded him in death.
To this union God blessed them with four surviving children: LaFonda Levingston (Christopher)
of Arlington, TX, Camella Holmes of Arlington, TX, Leah Black and Tyrone Black, Jr., both of
Dallas, TX and two blessed children prior to marriage, Glenda Williams of Minneapolis, MN
and Shawn Manoy of Dallas, TX.
Tyrone also leaves to cherish his loving memory: nineteen grandchildren, twenty-nine
great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, in laws, friends, and neighbors.
He will be remembered not only as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, but
a mentor to many. He taught us about resilience in the face of adversity, about the importance of
following our passions, and about the beauty of life's simple pleasures. He had a special ability
to make every person feel seen, heard, and valued. He could turn an ordinary day into an
extraordinary one with his infectious laughter, his insightful conversations, and his boundless
generosity. As we remember him today, let us not focus on the loss, but on the life he lived, the
love he shared, and the legacy he leaves behind.
Tyrone Lloyd Black, Sr. will forever be missed, but his spirit will forever live on in our hearts.
