Velma Ruth Wright was born on May 3, 1938, in Rockwall, Texas to the late Johnnie and Maggie Wright. She attended Rockwall Bourn Avenue Schools from elementary to high school.

Velma was baptized at an early age at Cedar Grove Christian Church. Later, she married Mr. A.W. Robertson and from this union her only son Larry Robertson was born, of whom is the current pastor of Cedar Grove Christian Church in Rowlett, Texas.

After some years following the death of A.W. Robertson, she married Mr. Floyd Coleman from  Oxford, Mississippi. Together they raised and gained guardianship of Mr. Floyd's great niece Charron Smith as their own, the daughter of his late niece Joyce Ann Smith. Velma also, had a stepdaughter Minister JoAnn Carothers (Mississippi).

Following the death of Mr. Floyd Coleman, Velma met the love of her life her husband Mr. Melvin Malcolm who tirelessly cared for her until her death.

Velma had a very outgoing and friendly spirit all her life which led to attracting many friends in both the Rockwall and Garland communities and a few Mississippi communities.

Velma Coleman was preceded in death by her parents Johnnie and Maggie Wright; four brothers Sylvester Wright, Odell Wright, Alvin Wright, and Willie James Wright; four sisters Thelma Scroggins, Maudie Mims, Ruby Dabney, and Johnnie Mae Napolean.

She leaves to mourn her son Larry Robertson Sr. (Beulah), daughter Charron Smith, husband Melvin Malcolm, grandson Larry Robertson Jr., granddaughters Jocelynn and Kyia'a Smith, great grandson Larry Robertson III, great granddaughter Mariah Robertson, two sisters Doro-
thy Terrell and Doris Brown (Roscoe). She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and very large extended friends all over East Garland and Rockwall.
