Mr. Walter Lee Sledge was born on August 17, 1955 in Sheffield, Alabama to the late Paul Henry Sledge and the late Mary Alston. He received his education in the Montgomery Public School System.
He met and married the love of his life, Mary Linda Davis. Soon after they were married they moved to Dallas, Texas. From their union two daughters, Patricia Lena Sledge and Nicole Anita Sledge, were born.
Walter worked for nine years at Wonder Bread where he met his best friend Ivy Jones. He also worked for Earthgrain for three years. He retired in 2006 and made a conscious decision to publicly give his life to Christ and was baptized at Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas on February 5, 2006.
After retiring, Walter's favorite past time was taking his granddaughters back and forth to school. One of his most proud moments was when his oldest grandchild, Jordan Rashad Robinson Sledge graduated from high school in 2015.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Paul Henry Sledge and Mary A. Sledge; two sisters: Hattie Lee Sledge and Vivian Ann Sledge; three brothers: Fletcher Allen Sledge, Sam Ellis and Marion Henry Sledge (Deacon Hammer).
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mary Linda Sledge; two daughters: Patricia Lena Sledge (Fiancé: Willie Jones) and Nicole Anita Sledge both of Mesquite, TX.; four grandchildren: Jordan Rashad Robinson Sledge of Houston, TX., Faith Mone't Sledge, Nadiya Ras'hall Dupas, and Janiya Nicole Dupas all of Mesquite, TX.; three sisters: Pauline Sledge of Defiance, OH., Deloris (James) Bibb and Sonda L. Sledge both of Montgomery, AL.; one brother: Vernon Dwain of Detroit, MI; one sister-in-law: Marie Sledge of Detroit, MI.; best friend Ivy Jones of Dallas, TX., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
