His Life…
Willie Davie Sloan was born March 2, 1954 to the parents of
Willie Ray Sloan and Mary Helen (Williams) Smith in Vallejo,
California. Willie was the younger of two sons by Willie and
Mary. In 1957, the family moved back to Fort Worth, Texas and
that's where the family planted its roots.
Willie confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and became a
member of Paradise Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. In
1967, the family moved to what is known as Eastwood where
Willie would complete his formal education at Paul Lawrence
Dunbar in 1972, Home of the Mighty Wildcats. While attending
Dunbar, Willie was a member of the ROTC and served as the
Drum Major his senior year under the band leadership of Charles
C. Scott II. Upon graduation in 1972, Willie enlisted in the US
Army in 1975 and served his country well as a SP4 until he received an Honorable Discharge in 1981. In the fall of 1982,
Willie pursued a career as a hairstylist and work in the industry
for over 30 years until his retirement in 2017.
In 1987, Willie was approach by his brother, Freddy, to join a
band called Casanova and the Cons, Blank Images, Junior Wright
and the Suave Show Band where he played the bass guitar from
1987 to 2017. While in the band, he met Debbie in June 1992 and
they married on June 10, 1995 and was married until our
Heavenly Father called him from labor to reward.
On May 31, 2023, Willie went home to be with his Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ. He is preceded in death by his father Willie
Ray Sloan and he leaves behind to cherish his memories, his
loving wife of 28 years Debbie Ruffin Sloan; his four daughters
Shaqwitta Sloan of Fort Worth, TX, April Ruffin of Fort Worth,
TX, Angelica Walker (Nickolas) of Fort Worth, TX, Jessica
Sloan of Keller, TX, Amanda Hayes (Tae) of Buffalo, Tx and
Antwanette Sloan; his three sons Corey Sloan (Toni) of Desoto,
TX, Johnny Hutcherson, Jr. of Buffalo, TX, Randall Sloan of
Buffalo, TX; his mother, Mary Helen Smith of Desoto, TX; one
brother, Fredrick (Nedra) Sloan of Desoto, TX; nine grandchildren, one great-grand daughter and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends.
